When we started out, the rocks consisted of kitty-litter and detergent jugs filled with water and frozen. From there we moved on to old cooking pots filled with concrete, with a piece of bent pipe for a handle. We now use half-weight rocks (made from resin, not granite), the full-size ones not being useful on outdoor ice.
We also now have a scoreboard, a hut for the rocks, and some tools to help in making the lines. The "hack" is a piece of carpet glued to some plywood, held down on the ice with a lot of protruding wood screws.
